Features
Nestled in a quiet residential street in the historic and bustling village of Abbots Langley, famous as the birthplace of Nicholas Breakspear who went on to become Pope Adrian IV - the only Englishman to ever be Pope, Tannerswood, which is now an Abbeyfield sheltered house, was originally a large family home with ample grounds.
Situated in the heart of Abbots Langley, the house is well regarded and very important to the residents of the local community.
We have 10 en-suite rooms with kitchenettes and two en-suite double rooms with kitchenettes which are suitable for couples. A House Manager is on site 09.00-15.00 during the week and overnight assistants are on site 22.00-07.00 each night to provide additional security and peace of mind. In addition we have seven hands-on trustees with a wide range of expertise supported by a committed and enthusiastic team of other volunteers.
Start the day at your own pace, preparing breakfast yourself; you have your own front door allowing you to come and go as you please or spend time getting to know the other residents in our large pleasant lounge, which overlooks the beautiful, well-maintained garden - the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun or while away the hours over a good book or a chat. Enjoy a freshly cooked lunch and evening tea prepared by one of our friendly team of cooks in the company of your fellow residents, or your own friends if booked in advance. You can be as independent or as sociable as you wish and the well attended open-house coffee morning each Tuesday and talks or other activities organised in the lounge on Thursday mornings give you the opportunities to chat and make new friends.
Conveniently located, we’re just a short walk away from Abbots Langley high street where you’ll discover a varied range of restaurants, post office, gift shops, bank, churches, doctors’ surgery, pharmacies, barbers, supermarket, to name a few. Neighbouring villages and towns include Kings Langley, Hemel Hempstead, Watford and St Albans. Kings Langley rail station has trains every 30 minutes to London Euston taking 25 minutes and the M25, M1, A41 and A414 are right on our doorstep for those wishing to travel further afield.
Tannerswood is managed by Abbeyfield West Herts Society.

Testimonials
“There are lots of good things about our Abbeyfield, it’s grounded in values like compassion, respect, care, and kindness. Our local home has helped my very elderly father stay independent and secure. The staff all know what they’re doing and the volunteers and trustees are second to none. I live a long way away and it’s a relief to know that my dad’s health and well-being are always in good hands. We’re fortunate to have somewhere so perfectly matched to his needs which is affordable and accessible. It’s kept him going at a time when he could have felt lonely and unable to cope.”
Resident's Representative
“I have been here 8 years and I really feel at home. I love it here, especially the company and involvement with activities and events in the lounge and garden. The cooks are flexible on meal selection and the food is good. I have no hesitation in recommending the home to others!”
