“This time last year my mother was living in Torquay and her physical and mental health were gradually deteriorating. As the weeks and months passed she realised that living alone was not a viable option and she took the very brave decision to relocate to Taunton, in order that I could be a lot more closer to offer support. My mum was born in Torquay and this was her home, she had a good social life and so her moving to Taunton did cause me a considerable amount of anxiety as I was worried about how she would settle especially as she enjoys the company of others. I saw an advertisement for the lunch club at Northfield Court contacted Sam the manager and arranged for Mum to visit, and the rest, as the saying goes is history! From the moment mum walked in she has been made to feel part of the community there. Everyone has been so kind not only to my mum but also to myself and I can't thank them all enough for the support they offer. My mums move to Taunton has gone better than I could ever have hoped for and I truly believe that Northfield court has played a massive part in mum being so happy and settled. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff , mum is invited to all of the events and she has formed some lovely friendships. I also know that I could always turn to Sam for support if I ever needed something extra for mum. We need more Northfield courts and Sam Corries in this world. ”

“Having brought my father along to the Northfield Court Lunch Club, I'm encouraging him to make attending a regular occurrence. He enjoyed the meal and the company - even more so on a second visit. He lives alone and I know he gets lonely; the Lunch Club means he gets company to talk to, and the assurance of a healthy meal into the bargain. All the staff were friendly and showed they were there to care for those they were serving. My wife and I volunteer with a charity supporting the elderly in our own area (in Scotland) and recognise how important it is for everyone to get a variety of company.”

“What a truly lovely home Northfield Court in Taunton is! When my parents, both in their 90s, had to move from their Abbeyfield flat overlooking the sea at Sidmouth, we were really worried about finding suitable and happy sheltered housing for them. However, we couldn’t have wished for a better place! This modern building, with its spacious rooms, airy conservatory and attractive garden, is within walking distance of Taunton town centre, French Weir Park and the Health Centre. The home cooked meals are so delicious that a short daily walk is ideal to keep the weight off! The staff have been wonderful – nothing is too much trouble – and communication with anxious offspring has been excellent and reassuring. The residents have also been so welcoming. Although Mum and Dad only moved into their new flat 2 weeks ago, they feel most at home already! It’s the little touches - like a sherry before their dinner, the ‘snack table’ and ‘fridge with drinks’ for them to help themselves, and staff to help with their laundry - that took a little longer getting used to! We are very happy knowing that Mum and Dad will be extremely well looked after here. ”
