Our house
Converted in 1966, Darwin House was originally two Edwardian semi detached properties, subsequently joined and converted into suitable accommodation for older people to live independently with support. We have eight en-suite rooms and a one-bedroom flat with kitchenette and large sitting room, suitable for two people. All rooms and flat have been refurbished with low level access showers. Each room has Wi-Fi access enabling you to browse online or chat with friends and family.
Darwin House is a friendly, homely retirement home, run by a team of staff and volunteers who are very experienced, kind, and thoughtful, and we are very proud to have achieved the Abbeyfield Core Standard award of excellence.
We extend a warm welcome to resident’s families and guests, offering them the opportunity to enjoy an overnight stay with their loved ones.

Guest at Darwin House
“Mum was in Abbeyfield Crowborough for six years before she had to go into a nursing home. She couldn’t have been happier when she moved into her lovely room and thoroughly enjoyed the company of both other residents and the staff. She didn’t have anything to worry about with all her needs being met – the cleaning, her washing and no more cooking! Darwin House is extremely well furnished with the benefit of a beautiful conservatory where morning coffee is served whilst chatting to friends, playing a game or doing a puzzle. Meals are served in the dining room where conversation can continue. There is also a pretty garden to sit in during the warmer weather. We felt very comforted that mum was safe and secure there, and cannot conclude without a huge thank you to the wonderful housekeepers who were so caring to mum.”
