Features
Situated in the small market town of Radcliffe, Abbeyfield House is a real home from home with dedicated, professional and caring staff who provide a cosy, warm and happy environment for all residents.
With eight studio apartments, we can easily accommodate all of our residents’ personal needs and our staff dedicate lots of time really getting to you on an individual level. We have recently upgraded our residents’ rooms, fitted a new staff kitchen, a new disabled WC and added new furniture in the communal lounge and dining room.
All of our apartments come with a kitchenette, including a microwave and under counter fridge, and a private en-suite shower room. Bring your own belongings and furniture to feel right at home and personalise your room to your own taste.
Abbeyfield House celebrated its 50th anniversary in September 2018 and our housekeeper Beverley has a special connection with the house. Her grandmother was the housekeeper in the 1970’s and Beverley lived with her during that time. After her grandmother retired, Beverley continued to help and provide support at the house until she became the housekeeper in 2006. Beverley and her husband Dennis live in the house in the housekeeper’s apartment, ensuring they are there to provide constant support and assistance to our residents.
Abbeyfield House is located in an excellent position, with Radcliffe town centre only minutes away and a bus stop right outside the house. We’re 15 minutes from Bury town centre and Radcliffe is served by the Metrolink where you can get to Manchester via a short trip. In Radcliffe, you’ll find a diverse range of restaurants, supermarkets, shops, hairdressers, beauty salons and banks.
Events and activities
We understand the importance of keeping residents active, which is why we put on a diverse range of activities and have a packed social calendar. Residents and staff enjoy planning activities together, which includes armchair aerobics, coffee mornings for friends and family to join in with and weekly Luncheon Cabaret outings. In the evenings in our communal lounge we have a home cinema, with a projector screen, and invite residents to watch concerts and films together.
Our housekeeper also brings residents over to Faraday House to joint in with their events and also organises regular trips to local garden centres. The resident’s most recent trip was Afternoon Tea at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool and they have trips organised to go to Oswaldtwistle Mill in Accrington and Rivington Barn.
Some of our most anticipated yearly events are the fairs which Beverley, our housekeeper, holds for Christmas, Easter, summer and Halloween. We also put on themed events throughout the year including country and western parties and 1940s events, which the residents and their families thoroughly enjoy.
This house is managed by Abbeyfield Bury.
Meet the team
I joined the Abbeyfield Bury Society in January 2019 as General Manager and report to the Board of Trustees. Working closely with the staff at both of our houses, we have established a varied routine of social events and activities for the residents.
