Our location
Maitland House is a purpose-built care home located in the heart of Reading. Originally established in 1996, it has undergone a complete refurbishment in 2022, creating a wonderful environment where residents can relax and enjoy socialising.
Situated in a quiet conservation area between Bath Road and Tilehurst Road, Maitland House boasts a fantastic location, less than one mile from Reading town centre. Excellent transportation options are within easy reach, with a nearby bus route and train station connecting to both the local area and London. Additionally, we are conveniently located just 15 minutes away from Junction 11 of the M4.
At Maitland House, we take great pride in our family-like atmosphere, where every resident is valued, treated with dignity, and respected. Our highly trained, dedicated, and friendly staff take the time to get to know each resident personally, enabling us to provide tailored care and support that suits their individual needs.
Our rooms
Maitland House offers a total of twenty-eight single bedrooms, spread across the ground and first floors. Each room is en-suite, equipped with a toilet and hand basin, while some also benefit from having their own showers. The bedrooms are designed to maximise natural light, and they are tastefully decorated and carpeted. Free-standing wardrobes and call bells ensure convenience and peace of mind for our residents.
While we provide furniture for the rooms, we encourage residents to personalise their room by incorporating their own small furniture, ornaments, and personal effects. This personal touch allows residents to create a warm and familiar atmosphere that truly feels like home.
Additionally, we provide guest facilities to accommodate family and friends who wish to stay overnight.
Communal spaces
Our communal spaces include delightful gardens with a patio area, with large, mature trees, shrubs, and flowering tubs. Residents can enjoy the beautiful view and take advantage of the two lounges, dining room, and hair salon, where they can socialise, relax, and enjoy a pampering session.
Activities and events
At Maitland House, we believe that engaging activities and events are essential for promoting the wellbeing of our residents. Our highly skilled team of carers and nurses work tirelessly to create a secure, relaxed, and homely environment. The Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society, of which we are a part, is dedicated to providing a year-round calendar of activities and trips that promote both physical and mental engagement.
Happy people make for happy homes, and we value resident input and encourage them to have a say in the activities they would like to participate in.

Testimonials
“Dad came to you in March 2023, and from day one, Dad has been made to feel very welcome. My sister and I have found the team at Maitland House to be very friendly, from management to all the carers. After we come away from visiting Dad, we both know he is in safe hands with your team until our next visit. Maitland management and staff keep up the good work. ”

“My mother has settled well into Maitland House. She enjoys participating in the range of activities and outings available. These are all very well organised. The carers are extremely attentive, supportive and professional in approach. An excellent standard of hygiene is maintained. There is a lovely homely and relaxed atmosphere to Maitland House. Whilst we are still waiting for some issues relating to her room to be sorted, Mum very much enjoys having a view of the lovely garden.”

“Since my dad became a resident at Maitland House Care Home in the summer of 2022, we have been impressed with the professionalism and level of care provided. He often referred to the accommodation and surroundings being likened to a hotel and he loved the place and the people, both staff and residents. The staff attended to his every need, always polite and courteous. In the last few weeks of my father's life, the staff at Maitland House went above and beyond our expectations. They supported both my father and our family in this most difficult of times.”

“My mother has been under the care of Maitland House now for just over a year and we have seen a marked improvement in her health, confidence and well-being during this time. She enjoys the relaxed and safe environment provided by the staff, engages with activities that are run and now eats more than she used to which is great to see. The room facilities are perfect for her and she often looks forward to spending time with other residents playing scrabble and other board games. Moving forward we hope to continue to see the high standards being kept and would highly recommend this facility, the staff are great!”
