About Irvine & District Society
Irvine & District Society was originally opened in 1975 by members of the Rotary Club of Irvine as a sheltered house with seven bedrooms.
It continued as such until the executive committee decided in 1995 that it was no longer viable as a small unit. There was an obvious need for a residential home in the town, so construction of a two-storey extension providing 22 en-suite bedrooms was embarked upon. Finance was provided by Scottish Homes and the new building was opened in September 1997. A further four bedrooms were added in 2006.
The house is administered by an executive committee, some of whom remain Rotary members. The committee consists of a chairperson, treasurer and secretary along with six committee members, each of whom has been chosen for their knowledge and experience.
