Bearsden Society

The Abbeyfield Bearsden Society began in 1971 following the generous donation of a very grand Victorian villa which stands within half an acre of beautiful grounds.

The original sheltered house was extended in 1984 and again in 1999 to accommodate eleven residents in good sized rooms all with en suite facilities. The residents furnish their own room with their treasured possessions allowing them to live in a homely environment which reflects their taste. The original conservatory was replaced in 2009. The new conservatory is extremely comfortable with central heating installed so that it can be used all year round. The conservatory also has books, games and a TV for the residents use and on occasion is used to view films.

Access to the upper floor is by the main staircase, and for those who need a little assistance, a new stair lift was installed last year.

The attractive garden has a secluded, sheltered sitting area. It is stocked with a variety of plants and shrubs and during the growing season the residents can enjoy fresh produce including rhubarb, raspberries, black currants and plums.

The house is within easy walking distance of Bearsden Cross and for those unable to walk there, we have two electric scooters - for the proficient drivers, or alternatively local taxis are readily available. At Bearsden Cross you can find a post office, newsagent, doctors, dentists, opticians, pharmacists, banks and a Marks and Spencer’s food hall. There are also several coffee shops and restaurants, and five churches covering four different denominations.

There are regular bus and train services to Glasgow (6 miles away) and Milngavie.
