Keep active, live independently and enjoy later life
Abbeyfield Barrow Society was founded in 1967 with two houses, and moved to purpose built accommodation at Millennium House in 2000.
With local funds initially, we owned two older houses to create homes for local older people.
When the upkeep of those became too expensive, the decision was taken to close and sell them and to reinvest the proceeds, and together with grants from national and local government and generous support from benefactors, we were able to buy a new property which we could adapt to ensure it meet the needs of all of our residents.
Our home Millennium House opened in 2000. Here we were able to create purpose built accommodation for older people who still wanted to live an independent life but without the stresses or worries of maintaining their own home.
We aim to provide a secure and stimulating environment in which our residents may enjoy companionship without losing their own privacy. Our residents are treated as individuals and their own wishes and needs are discussed and respected from the outset.
