This Christmas, it's more important than ever to continue supporting each other and those who need us most.
Older people are among those who have been advised to stay at home and with that, they may be feeling uncertain. So, how can we support older relatives, friends and neighbours in the community? With special thanks to Becky Wass for allowing us to use her intuitive #viralkindness campaign, we have designed some support cards that you can use to help older people this Christmas.
There are others ways you can help if you are also staying at home, we've listed these below.
Write to them
A traditional form of keeping in touch, still loved dearly by the older generation. You could even get crafty and make some homemade cards (great to get the kids involved) or send a small gift to keep spirits high. We received some amazing letters earlier this year, read more about them here. Older people in the community would love to hear from you too.
Book or film share
Share some books you've read or films you've watched that you really enjoyed. For ideas, take a look at the books and films we recommend for older people.
Send food hampers or gifts
Send something special to put a smile on their face. There are lots of gifting options available, our favourites are M&S's hampers and gifts and The Cornish Food Box Company hampers.
Share these services
You could also share befriending helplines such as Age UK and The Silver Line. Both numbers are below – or, if you have their number, give them a call yourself to check in on them.
- Age UK – 0800 169 65 65
- The Silver Line – 0800 470 80 90
