Residents at Abbeyfield Wey Valley had a fantastic day out at the Silent Pool Gin Distillery, where they enjoyed learning about the process of making gin, its history and origins, as well as talking about why it has become such a popular drink today.

“Our residents enjoy their alcoholic tipples,” says Wellbeing Manager Tracey Pollard, who organised the event. “We’ve visited vineyards previously but our residents fancied a change.”

Along with an interesting talk and tour, the residents of course got to try a drink or two, finishing off the day with a tasting of the full Silent Pool Gin range.

“It was a very interesting talk,” says Abbeyfield Wey Valley resident Beryl. “But more importantly, it was good gin!”

Resident May also had a fantastic time. “The gin was excellent. Although, some were a bit too strong for me!” she admits.

The visit to the gin distillery is just one of many fantastic events and day trips put on by Tracey at Abbeyfield Wey Valley, who always strives to ensure there’s something for everyone to get involved with, no matter what their hobbies and interests are. “For the wine drinkers, we went to Greyfriars Vineyard last week!”

It’s not all drink related though, with plenty else going on in a varied, engaging activities programme. “We’re also planning a visit to the Museum of Military Medicine for the historians among us and Birdworld for the animal lovers. For the artistic, we are doing pottery painting and will be enjoying plenty of lunches out for the foodies.”

Tracey puts together the fantastic programme of activites around what the residents enjoy and what it is they’d like to do. “They all love a canal boat ride,” says Tracey “and this is our eighth year of going!”

“It’s important to make sure the residents have plenty to look forward to,” says Tracey. “It’s about making sure they have the chance to try new things and have amazing experiences, and live their chosen lifestyle.”
