Celebrating 50 Years of Accommodation and Companionship
The Abbeyfield Reigate Society marked five decades of support for their residents and older people in the local community with a celebratory anniversary lunch joined.
We were delighted to welcome our residents and their families, as well as friends and volunteers of Abbeyfield House, sheltered house in Somers Road.
Abbeyfield Reigate are proud to be carrying on the legacy of Abbeyfield Society founder Richard Carr-Gomm in providing a safe and secure home environment where residents can find friendship and support, enabling them to live full independent lives.
“We are very proud of the Society’s accomplishments over the years and believe it is a huge achievement to have continued to update and modernise the house since 1973. That means we can fully meet the needs of older people in the neighbourhood who would like some support but also value their independence. We are looking forward to the next 50 years!”
Leonora Corden, Chair of Trustees
The 50th anniversary celebration brought together residents, families, representatives from local community groups, friends and volunteers. Abbeyfield Reigate has a strong history of developing close links in the community to identify isolated older people and provide them with additional services, including joining coffee mornings, lunch and other activities where they can meet other like-minded people and develop new relationships.
Among those invited were the Mayor and Mayoress of Reigate & Banstead.
“It was wonderful to meet the staff and residents of Abbeyfield House. It is great to see that this type of accommodation is available to older people who would like a bit of support, but also value their independence.”
Cllr Eddy Humphreys, Mayor of Reigate & Banstead
Tina Wooster, Abbeyfield House Manager said, “Everyone had a great afternoon, it was absolutely wonderful to be a part of the celebration, bringing everyone together really does sum up what Abbeyfield Reigate is all about.”
