Last week Abbeyfield hosted their first annual Christmas Carol service at Liverpool Cathedral. Following it's success a second service was arranged for residents and staff in the south of England at St. Albans Cathedral.
Bishop Stephen Venner started the ceremony with a welcome to all and reminder of the message of Christmas. Being on 'home ground', Bishop Venner was thrilled to welcome over 100 people to St. Albans Cathedral and lead our celebrations.
As well as singing favourite hymns such as 'O Come All Ye Faithful' and 'Away in a Manger', the congregation was fortunate to have two singer-songwriters from Sandringham School perform four songs written specially for the service. Using themes of community and companionship, Charlotte Nairne, aged 15, and Leona Tindall, aged 14, wowed everyone in attendance with their creativity and musical talents.
Members of Abbeyfield staff and resident of Kenton House, Michael Raven, read the story of the birth of Jesus with readings from the Bible and from the poet Timothy Dudley-Smith.
Alastair Mulvie, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Abbeyfield said, "It was wonderful to see so many of our residents at the Abbeyfield Christmas Carol Concert in St Albans. The event provides a fantastic opportunity for people to come together in fellowship, to celebrate the birth of Christ and for us to fully immerse ourselves in the season of goodwill. i look forward to joining everyone again next year."

Companionship at Christmas
Christmas is an especially important time of year for older people living in the UK as it’s at this time of year when feelings of loneliness and social isolation are brought to the fore.
Every year, almost a million older people* feel lonelier at Christmas which is why our homes are opening their doors to invite as many people in the community as we can, who would otherwise be alone, to join us over the festive period. Offering the chance to meet new friends, eat good food and take part in festive activities, Companionship at Christmas aims to make sure everybody has someone to spend Christmas with.
